In Fashion: Meet Sibling’s Cozette McCreery

Cozette is part of the hugely talented design trio behind Sibling, the London-based label that has singlehandedly reinvented knitwear thanks to an offbeat aesthetic that revels in the joy of dressing up.
How would you sum up the SIBLING aesthetic?
C: Easy: bright, colourful, cheery, young at heart, positive and for spring/summer 2015, pretty-punk.
What’s the best bit of the job?
C: Male model casting [laughs], c’mon I’m only human! Other than that, it’s working with the entire SIBLING team to stage a catwalk show. By ‘team’ I mean the three of us, our interns, suppliers, models, hair and makeup, stylists [LOVE magazine’s Phoebe Arnold for womenswear and Wonderland’s Matthew Josephs for menswear], milliners, shoe people and sponsors – it’s a huge group. We don’t like stress or drama so backstage is alive and buzzing with good energy. Wow, I sound like such a hippy.

What’s the worst bit of the job?
C: Production and manually packing deliveries–but it’s not a business without product and orders!

What’s on your studio playlist right now?
C: We have the stylist Matthew Josephs in at the moment, so we’re listening to a lot of Girl’s Generation. I’m finding it very hard not to do all the (incorrect) hand-dance moves to Genie.

What’s your best tip for surviving fashion week?
C: Have fun. If that fails, find some!

If you weren’t talking to us right now, what would you be doing?
C: Answering my zillion emails, interacting on our social media platforms, learning the correct dance moves from Matthew…

What sets the London fashion industry apart?
C: Speaking from personal experience but I’d say the support we get here in London is quite unique. This comes from UK Trade and Investment and the British Fashion Council in the form of awards or sponsorship, or even just chatting with our fellow designers. We all lean on each other. Combined with the diversity of brands and creativity on offer, this gives London strength.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
C: That all three of us are doing a job we love daily. That’s a pretty enviable place to be.

If you could dress anyone, who would it be and why?
C: You. Or the person reading this. We know celebrity is important and it is fantastic that we have a great A-List following, but there is nothing like the thrill of seeing a garment on a stranger.

Describe your spring/summer 2015 collection in four words…
	C: Maripol. Flirtatious. Fun. Bows.

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
C: I am one of those people who hates fancy dress with a passion, refuses to take part and then gets over themselves and then finds a bones-covered onesie, adds full skeleton makeup and has the best evening ever. I don’t ‘do’ sexy witch or sexy cat, I’m too much of a tomboy. Recently I was the only adult to have my face painted at a Disney event. The makeup woman was there for the kids but was pretty much being ignored. Hours later I was sagely chatting away about the importance of PR to the Disney CEO. There I was…. with my face painted as a tiger.

	Tell us a joke…
C: What, the above anecdote wasn’t enough for you?
