Meals On Wheels: London’s Best Food Trucks (And Where To Find Them)

As London’s appetite for food trucks continues to grow, it’s safe to say that some of the capital’s greatest (and most affordable) gourmet grub is cooked up on four wheels. From Neapolitan pizzerias to haute ice lollies, these are our favourite foodie roadside hangouts.
Luardos
It’s hard to miss the two Luardos graffiti-strewn vans charging around the streets of London (apparently named Jesus H. Van and Mary, FYI). Their style of cooking is just about as far from the greasy Tex Mex cliché as you can get. In fact, once you’ve polished off a chicken burrito crammed with fresh tomato salsa, homemade guacamole and habanero hot sauce, you’ll almost feel virtuous. Almost.
Where to find them: Whitecross Street market, weekday lunchtimes.

Ice Kitchen
Frozen yoghurt? So over. Nowadays it’s all about gourmet lollies. We’re a little bit in love with aunt-and-nephew team Cesar and Nadia Roden’s innovative take on the humble ice lolly. They major on deliciously unexpected flavour combinations and Nadia and Cesar only use natural ingredients. The peach and hibiscus is divine, as is the lychee and lemongrass.
Where to find them: Cesar and Nadia tend to move around so it’s worth checking their website, but they’re often found KERB food market, Granary Square in Kings Cross from 11.30am-2pm.

															Mother Flipper
It’s a simple but genius concept: proper homemade burgers and traditional sides, all cooked to perfection. Meat is 100% chuck mince and carefully crafted burgers are served on demi-brioche buns. Make sure you try the candy maple fried bacon. Unreal.
Where to find them: Brockley market, Saturdays from 10am-2pm.

Pizza Pilgrims
A Naples-style pizzeria located in a three-wheel Piaggio Ape van may sound improbable, but there’s no denying that brothers Thom and James Elliot make the best Neapolitan sourdough pizzas around. Our tip: to enjoy PP’s pizza in all its glory, skip the fancy toppings and order a Neapolitan margherita. Sublime.
Where to find them: Leather Lane market, weekday lunchtimes.

															Big Apple Hot Dogs
London may offer a mind-boggling array of gastro options, but until recently it was near impossible to find a decent hot dog in the capital. Thankfully, the people behind Big Apple Hog Dogs have shaken things up with their gluten-free free-range hot dogs. Top it off with their onions fried in butter, thyme and black pepper, pickled cucumbers, mustard and relish and you can’t go wrong.
Where to find them: 239 Old Street, 12-6pm from Tuesday to Friday.

															Mother Clucker
Mother Clucker serves up traditional southern fried chicken marinated in a sweet tea brine, double coated in buttermilk and a secret blend of spices—and all made in an old US army ambulance. Eat with their famous Cajun fries, mac ‘n’ cheese and black eyed peas, and their legendary homemade hot sauce.
Where to find them:  The Truman Brewery from 12pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
