SS14 MAKE-UP TRENDS
THE TREND: A SHOT OF ELECTRIC BLUE
As seen at Marc Jacobs, David Koma and Prada, this is blue eye make-up at its most true and most raw. Applied to be seen and worn with a nonchalant edge, it captures the rebellious spirit of summer 2014. Stick to cream shadows and waxy pencils for the most modern effect.
How to apply? “Keep colour simple and strong by applying in one clean sweep. Whether you use a brush or your fingers is dependent on the texture you’re using. Fingers are the best weapon of choice when working with cream consistencies. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Turquoise Forever works brilliantly by pressing finger on the eyelid and worn with little else. Alternatively try Maybelline Mono Eye Shadow in Blue Paradise or Couture Blue and apply to your eyelids, blending edges with a medium shadow brush.” Maybelline New York make-up artist, Sharon Dowsett.
	THE TREND: TEENAGE FLICKS
As seen at Just Cavalli, Missoni, Versace, and Mulberry, moody, schoolgirl eyes take centre stage as heavy kohl liner becomes de rigueur.  Make-up artists across the board used intense black kohl pencil on both the inner and outer lash line for the effect. No liquid liners need apply; it’s all about a strong kohl finish.

Vibrant orange replaces red as the power pout of choice. As seen at DKNY, rag & bone, Galliano and Prabal Gurung. Not for the faint hearted, this statement lip takes no prisoners when it comes to impact.
THE TREND: THE NEW BROW ARMY
As seen at Louis Vuitton, Marni and Dries Van Noten, the next generation brow has arrived. Best described as sharply defined, blunt in shape and dramatically filled in with a standard issue black, expect a uniform approach to brow-grooming next season.
	THE TREND: GLEAM TEAM
As seen at Julien Macdonald, Dior and MAXMARA, the new gold rush is considered and thoughtfully applied to make a modern statement. Concentrating on a palette of cool golds and pewters this is as far away from bling as metallic can be.  Wear it in an unexpected fashion – glimmering eyebrows stole the show at Dior while a sculpted gold cheek stood out at Julien Macdonald.
“Stick to graphic accents of gold that frame the face and bring an otherworldly feel. Move away from warm bronzes and yellow golds which ooze obvious glamour. Think outside the box…” explains Maybelline New York make-up artist, Sharon Dowsett.
