THE EDIT MEETS SUSIE BUBBLE
She’s just 29, her Style Bubble blog gets over 30,000 hits a day and she’s now a cover girl and street style star in her own right. If you haven’t heard of Susanna Lau, better known as Susie Bubble, then we might ask, what have you been doing?
A bit of background…
Susie Bubble started her blog, Style Bubble, in 2006, merging her own personal musings with outfit posts and style observations. The Hong Kong born, London bred writer focused on new and emerging talent and has subsequently become an authority on up and coming designers.
With her quirky style and signature topknot/ playful headwear, paired with bright accessories and clashing prints and textures, she manages to have fun with fashion while at the same time being incredibly knowledgeable.
And why Susie Bubble? According to Susie it started as a primary school nickname [because she always looked as if she was in a world of her own] which has stuck.
Here, she gives us a few of her best fashion and blogging tips:
Your style has been called ‘defiantly eclectic’. What is your most ‘defiantly eclectic’ look of the moment?
"A mixture of Meadham Kirchhoff, vintage sheer night gowns and very old Miu Miu shoes."
Favourite outfit of the moment…
"Voluminous ASOS x Molly Goddard dress and new Nike Flyknit Free shoes. Love that a graduate like Goddard got to do a collab with ASOS."
Favourite trend for AW13…
"Weird shades of pink but not pink as you know it."
Key wardrobe items for AW13…
"Something furry (faux if you prefer), something fun and something shiny like a Quality Street wrapper."
Top tips for unknown talent…
"I'm excited to see how Palmer Harding, Marques Almeida and Lucas Nascimento do with their own solo shows. Younger than that, I'm really loving Ryan Lo, Faustine Steinmetz and John Earnshaw."
What makes a good blog…
"Unique content that hasn't been repeated across the blogosphere. When there's a mix of everything – coverage of designers, exhibitions, shops as well as a very personal outlook on style."
Look out for the “Have fun at VLFWE” tags for Susie Bubble’s edited picks. Here Susie explains her selection:
“I chose a lot of great Miista shoes in oil slick finishes which I think will look great for AW13."
"The Emma J Shipley scarves were great and should be draped quite dramatically around the shoulders so you can see the intricate designs."
"The Kate Sheridan raincoats are perfect for British weather and definitely need to be layered up with chunky knits for the winter."
"Muubaa has some great leather pieces – definitely, like all the autumnal ombre colourways and the texture of the patchwork pieces."
"Love the vintage ski vibes of Paper London's AW13 collection. Definitely wear the greens, blues and yellows all at once."
"Peridot London's shirts would definitely plug a lot of gaps in a wardrobe.”
