Official SS14 Blogger – The Trend Shows
So on Thursday 20th February, I took a trip up to Somerset house to begin my Vodafone London Fashion Weekend experience as their official blogger. I know, crazy right?! (I don't think the excitement will ever wear off).
I wasn't sure exactly what to expect on my first day. I'd been to Vodafone London Fashion Weekend before but as a paying member of the public, not as a working blogger! However I was overcome with pure excitement at the fact I would be writing about and attending an event I love and getting recognised for it! It was honestly the best feeling in the world.
TREND ALERT
First up was the Trend Catwalk Show, styled by THE OUTNET.COM. The show featured four specific trends that are definitely going to be big in 2014. THE OUTNET.COM is a brilliant e-tailer, sister company to Net-a-porter and home to over 250 of the worlds most exciting designer brands at irresistible prices. Better yet, they had a pop up shop right outside the showspace so you could buy the looks straight off the catwalk!
Their pick of the seasons top four trends included iridescent metallics, oversized floral motifs, neon lace and exaggerated sports silhouettes. What’s not to love? See my round up of this season’s must have trends below!
Precious Metal
An array of vibrant hues and iridescent finishes made this trend a shiny and svelte must have for SS14. Step out in style with a futuristic vibe: think silver, shiny and slinky! Balance with block separates for a paired down version or go all out in a sparkly jumpsuit like Marc Jacobs if you're feeling brave! I loved THE OUTNET.COM 's use of popping colour in the show, balancing a gold metallic skirt with a cute blue cropped jumper. Who says metal can't be wearable?
Flower Power
Flower Power was a floral extravaganza of sixties inspired prints. A wave of contrasting colours and delicate posie patterns made this a girly summer favourite. Simple lines and silhouettes with complex prints seemed to be a common theme. Dress up in an all over floral jumpsuit for a drink with the girls or pair down in a floral pencil skirt for the office. One thing’s for sure, these beautiful blooms are going to make for a blossoming SS14 and Flower Power is definitely a wearable wardrobe staple to have on your wish list this summer!
Lace Embrace
Lace Embrace was a real celebration of the female: think texture, shape, colour and detail all in one. Sheer lace made an appearance, as did contrasting coloured lace, proving the trend is going one step further and pushing the boundaries of the traditional. Shapely dresses and peplum tops, cinched in at the waist for a real ladylike silhouette took centre stage as did the neon lace which I'm sure will be a huge summer favourite.
Good Sport
The trainer has become somewhat of a fashion staple amongst editors and the fashion savvy of late. Good Sport told the story of sports luxe and ways to make the baggy and exaggerated silhouette fashionable. An extension of the practical: think rah-rah pleats, rounded shoulders and smart fabrics. THE OUTNET.COM styled bright colours with darker tones including latex, more metallic and more sparkle. Clean-cut lines and patterns make this trend a sporty alternative and one to watch for SS14!
