Official SS14 Blogger – Friday Talks

First up on day two of my Vodafone London Fashion Weekend experience was a SS14 Beauty Trend Talk from Elle Beauty Director Sophie Beresiner. I was really looking forward to hearing from the Director herself and the talk covered trendy tips from high fashion to low fashion, so anyone could pull them off and be as daring as they wanted.

BEAUTY

One trend I found particularly endearing was 'Gold Standard' - painting your eyebrows glittering gold! As see in the Christian Dior SS14 show it makes a rather strong statement and seems to be a trend to watch this season, we all know metallics are going to be big! I don't know if I could pull off gold eyebrows just yet, but the lo-fi version as Sophie explained was a hint of gold on your eyelid, which I think I could manage.

Another key beauty trend mentioned was 'Spider Lashes' created with a feathering mascara. Beresiner sported one and strongly suggested investing as they are "really lovely fat wands that separate the lashes and give you that beautiful spidery effect" - I may have to cave and buy one! Pastel lips are also on the agenda, with Jessie J sporty some rather colourful lilac lips for the recent BRIT Awards, in a stunning Julien Macdonald jumpsuit nonetheless. A brave choice, and one that had a mixed response.

Lastly, BROWS! Brows were a huge focus last season with the likes of Cara stepping on the scene with her gorgeously thick ones (something I think would be extremely hard for me to pull off anytime soon!) The brow of this season is more sporty and easier to manage - my ears pricked up at this point as anything that is easy to manage is a winner for me! Instead of monstrously thick brows, as some people did tend to go a little OTT with the pencil last season, use an eyebrow brush to brush up you brows slightly and create a rough and ready effect. Now this I think I could manage. Don't do away with the pencil just yet - gone are block brows but subtle brows are in, so keep the pencil for light definition.

LINGERIE

Fifi Chachnil is a wonderful lingerie designer all the way from Paris. With her upcoming 30th anniversary and the showing of her AW14 ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week, she is propelling London ladies into a seductive frenzy with her fabulously feminine pieces. I must admit, I wasn't all too familiar with Chachnil before Vodafone London Fashion Weekend but I did some research and her lingerie is b e a u t i f u l. In an exclusive interview with Chachnil she explained she creates "for the feminine silhouette" and this is obvious throughout all of her collections. Inspired by the real feminine body, curves and all, she focuses on making women feel good through flirtatiously adorned lingerie. There is not a piece of her collection lacking in decoration, from feathers to lace and gorgeous fabrics. A Parisian brand at heart, an element of the fantastical and classic Parisian woman is always present and Chachnil was an elaboration of this. She tottered into the Live lounge wearing chic white gloves and petite block heels, in pink of course. It was a wonderful insight into the world of Lingerie, and if you're feeling a little bit curious why don't you visit her website here. Go on, I know you want to...

TREND TALK

Celebrity Fashion Stylist and presenter Kalee Hewlett gave us a brilliant trend talk in the Luxe Lounge, and the emphasis is on print this season. Think flowers, spots or leopard print to make your wardrobe pop! This shouldn't be too hard seeing as the trends shown on Thursday, styled by THE OUTNET.COM included digital print, lace and flowers to name a few. We're spoilt for choice!

BRANDS GALORE

I was so excited to get back to the brand exhibits and have a bit more of a nosey around. From sunglasses to scarves, jewellery to bags there was nothing missing from the rooms of Somerset House - and all at irresistibly reduced prices too! I was captivated by the jewellery of Wishlist London and the scarves from Jane Carr, so I couldn't not let you in on all the fun!

Wishlist London is the brainchild of Laurence Fava and Laura Berkeley-Hawkes. Their stand caught my eye as the jewellery looked so delicate and oozed a kind of bohemian glamour, so much so I had to take a peak. As you're probably aware, I love collections with meaning and knowing the inspiration behind a piece makes it all the more special. The Mandala collection was a really tantalising concept. A symbol of perfection, eternity, unity and completeness I was fascinated by the idea and their jewellery was pure and dainty perfection. Take a look at their website here.

Jane Carr and her luxury hand finished scarves were a colour popping extravaganza. A real statement piece, they can accessorize any outfit and I loved the colour combinations and use of fabrics. Due to the horrible winter weather I've been wearing thicker scarves of late, but these would be great for the summer months to keep you fashionable and colourful! See her gorgeous designs here.
