Official SS14 Blogger – Saturday Talks

Day three proved to be a huge treat. The girls from Maybelline gave us a make-up masterclass and the lovely Miriam and Siobhan from Remotely Fashion gave us a wonderful talk 'In Praise of Blogging'. I was beyond excited as their blog is so inspirational and fun!

First things first, the lovely Liz Martins and Michelle Humphrey's from Maybelline gave us a brilliant insight into beauty trends straight from the catwalk. Maybelline did all the make-up for the models during Vodafone London Fashion Weekend and they shared their secrets with us is the Vodafone Live Lounge. Nail technician Michelle shared some invaluable nail advice such as using cuticle oil to make your nails dry faster and only using thin coats. This was a top tip I took away as I'm forever painting my nails last minute and wondering why they smudge.. I bet a lot of you have this problem too! I'm also so impatient when it comes to waiting for my nails to dry. She also told us nail varnish has a shelf life which, to be honest, I had never really considered before! There’s no need to keep your polish in the fridge, as some rather eager guests pointed out they did.. A cool dark place is fine! (I just keep mine in tins. I say tins as I have a rather extensive collection of polishes!) Liz Humphrey's gave top tips on skin and make-up and one invaluable tip I took away was Maybelline's new baby skin primer. I don't know how many of you use primer; I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to knowing what makeup is best and how to use it, I just use the basics and hope it looks ok! But I was intrigued by this "baby skin in a bottle" and just had to try it. It was great as it seemed to minimise my oily complexion, which has always seemed to be a problem. The girls at Maybelline did a great job, and check out Michelle's funky nails below!

'In Praise of Blogging' with Miriam and Siobhan from Remotely Fashion was something I had been looking forward to since I found out the schedule. Their blog is a diary of their fashion, loves and life; albeit with a feminist slant and witty sense of humour. It really is a great read and I love how their personality shines through the pages. Their talk was funny, bubbly and honest; their friendship and love of fashion evident. Miriam is from the UK, while Siobhan is from the US and their unlikely friendship was formed when Miriam fell in love with Siobhan's brogues whilst on a picnic. A match made in fashion you might say! Miriam's hilarious personality highlighted that bloggers are really just "fashion nerds" and they both emphasised the realities of blogging extremely well. Both work long hours, Miriam as a Stylist and Siobhan as a Graphic Designer, and say they blog because they want to share their fashion and love of fashion with others. What started out as a hobby is now a popular read for many fashion goers all over the world, quite an achievement! I was so excited to meet the girls and share with them some of my blogging experiences, so watch this space as an interview with these two blogging experts may well be on the cards very soon!
