The Official SS15 Blogger - The Trend Shows
THE OUTNET.COM SS15 catwalk show was perhaps the most highly anticipated show of London Fashion Weekend. Just how THE OUTNET.COM intended to showcase the four most celebrated trends of SS15 was a source of wonder and with barely suppressed excitement, we waited for the sassy, vibrant and achingly cool Angela Scanlon to introduce the show. Bouncing onto the catwalk, Scanlon instantaneously charmed her fashion-forward audience, delivering a punchy and succinct synopsis of what lay ahead.
Hyper-Florals
“Florals? For spring? Ground-breaking” quoted Scanlon mischievously before THE OUTNET.COM show began. Comforted by a sneak preview of the ‘Hyper Floral’ trend backstage, Scanlon was at ease in her jest as she assured the audience that we would be captivated in our transformation to a floral paradise.
As they ascending the runway, the models positively blossomed in a memorising riot of fantastical florals. Key pieces included sheer delicates adorned in oversized 3-dimmensional petals, mix and match co-ordinates in hues of sea-green and blue and striking printed blooms that took their aesthetic cue from flowers.
Shimmer and Shine
Grown-up glamour in luxurious fabrics hallmarked this SS15 trend which heralded a more sophisticated, wearable version of Studio 54 where fashion first fell in love with disco. Less glitter, more shimmer, certainly didn’t displace the elegant appeal of the trend.
Neutral pink and pastel hues teamed with glistening metallics contrasted beautifully as the models shimmed down the catwalk. Popular looks included the effortlessly chic, white jumpsuit which radiated refined glamour.
Sleek, polished hair courtesy of TONI&GUY and fresh, dewy make-up reigned supreme on the catwalk and cemented the overall appeal of this trend.
Make it Monochrome
“Black comprises everything. So does white. They possess absolute beauty: they are in perfect harmony”. Coco Chanel
Historically, the monochrome trend was associated with masculine tailoring. However, the Sixties decade acting as a sling-shot catapulted this black-and-white trend into stardom. The monochrome trend which exploded during this decade was borne out of a desire to give the conventional view of femininity an authoritative and strong presence. Given the recent resurgence of Sixties inspired silhouettes it was no surprise that THE OUTNET.COM featured Monochrome as one of its four key trends for SS15.
As an army of unified but distinct Dominoes purposefully advanced down the runway, it soon became apparent that THE OUTNET.COM had provided a fresh, sleek and modernised twist on the classical ‘mod look’ so popular in the Sixties as dramatic contrasts of black and white blurred the lines between feminine and masculine tailoring.
Furthermore, the optical and abstract monochrome prints which featured prominently on the catwalk gave the impression of flash movement and vibrating patterns. The sleek, leather camisole and vertical striped skirt were particularly admired by the audience as the contrasting look created lines and shapes that enhanced the appearance. The trend was uniformity but not as we know it.
That Seventies Show
As the models sashayed down the catwalk to the distinctive, lush melody of Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard it Through The Grapevine”, it was clear that fashion had fallen head-over-platforms back in love with the Seventies, a decade renowned for its fashion contradictions and endless dualities which has proved an irresistible fascination for fashion powerhouses in recent seasons.
The continuous spectrum of style on show during this era ranged from polished up shimmering metallics to leisured down retro-inspired prints which encompassed the brash, the bold, the simple and the chic. THE OUTNET.COM not only showcased the highlights of this fashionably diverse era but added a modern twist which only heightened the desirability of the collection to the audience.
Highlights included a bohemian nod to the Seventies – flared jeans, smoky over-sized aviator sunglasses and fringing. Indeed, a suede, fringed jacket worthy of a Starsky and Hutch comparison and a purple, suede fringed skirt drew collective nods of appreciation from the audience.
The collection ended with a sensual nod to the Seventies in the appearance of a luxuriously slit, shirt dress which exuded a streamlined, sultry appearance.
In addition to escorting the Seventies trend right into the current SS15 season, THE OUTNET.COM succeeded in demystifying the diverse trends of the Seventies and making these instantly wearable for those keen to revive the retro.
The looks featured in these four outstanding trends were all available to purchase from The Outnet pop-up retail space directly outside the catwalk. Please also see http://www.theoutnet.com/en-GB/ for further trend inspiration.
