Patrick Grant
In May 2015 Patrick Grant won the BFC/ GQ designer menswear fund sponsored by Vertu, part of a twelve month mentoring programme for his transformation of the RTW line E. Tautz. Patrick has numerous other awards to his name; having won the British Fashion Council’s Menswear Designer of the Year award in December 2010 for his work on E. Tautz. In 2012, he won the BFC’s Fashion Forward award, was shortlisted for Designer of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards and International Designer of the Year at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. He was also named Retailer of the Year at the 2008 Scottish Fashion Awards.
Patrick’s most recent venture has been perhaps his most rewarding to date. In 2015, he purchased the ailing British Cookson & Clegg factory weeks from closure. Following this, in 2016, Patrick Grant launched the not-for-profit clothing line Community Clothing, born from concerns about the structural issues facing many small UK clothing and textile businesses – namely, the seasonality of demand. With this in mind, Patrick created a line available direct to the consumer, eliminating wholesale mark-ups to create quality, affordable British clothing for all. From this, Patrick has been able to save as well as create a huge number of jobs in the Blackburn community and is currently looking for other factories at risk to join his Community Clothing project.
Patrick is a regular in best dressed lists in the UK, appearing for the past five years in GQ’s 50 Best Dressed Men, he was named in Esquire Magazine’s Most Stylish Men in the World and was one of 10 Men You Should Meet in London in 10 Men magazine. He is also a regular on the BBC both on television and radio, including the major documentaries Savile Row, Harris Tweed, and The Perfect Suit, and the on-going BBC2 Series The Great British Sewing Bee.
Patrick has a Bachelors degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Leeds University and Université d’Orléans, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Oxford and in 2013 was made an Honorary Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University School for Business & Society. He has worked with many brands and designers including Barbour, Christopher Kane, Kim Jones, House of Holland, John Lobb, Rag & Bone, The Kooples, Jaguar Land Rover, Citroen and Chivas Regal. Patrick lives in London and bicycles to work on Savile Row each day.
